He has advised leaders at companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Hyundai, IBM, and Wells Fargo. He\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s also authored seven books, including the recently released <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Matter-Beyond-Competition-Create-Obvious\/dp\/1941631762\/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=matter+move+beyond&amp;qid=1556657330&amp;s=gateway&amp;sr=8-1-spell\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matter: Move Beyond the Competition, Create More Value, and Become the Obvious Choice<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Generation-Thriving-Surviving-Work\/dp\/1740663179\/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?keywords=generation+y+peter+sheahan&amp;qid=1556802636&amp;s=gateway&amp;sr=8-1-fkmrnull\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Generation Y<\/a><\/em>, a book about the millennial workforce.<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_4958\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4958\" class=\"wp-image-4958 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.caionline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/PeterSheahanDigital-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.caionline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/PeterSheahanDigital-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.caionline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/PeterSheahanDigital-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.caionline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/PeterSheahanDigital-610x407.jpg 610w, https:\/\/blog.caionline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/PeterSheahanDigital.jpg 912w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-4958\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Peter Sheahan<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Generation Y<\/em> came about due to Sheahan\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s experience as manager of a hotel in Sydney, Australia. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I noticed there was a very big disconnect between what the young people that I was hiring wanted from their experience of work and what I needed from them at work, as their employer,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he says.<\/p>\n<p>Since that formative experience, Sheahan and his team have strived to help company leaders understand ways to attract talented workers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People think that the secret to attracting and retaining talent is little things like, &#8216;Let&#8217;s give them free lunch&#8217; or &#8216;What perks can we offer?&#8217; or &#8216;What are our benefits compared to the benefits down the road?&#8217; But at the end of the day, it really comes down to the quality of the organization,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Sheahan says. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Is it successful? Is it high performing? Because good, smart people want to work in those environments.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Sheahan recommends a few best practices for community associations and management companies for recruiting and retaining talent:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Stop thinking about tactics, and start thinking about the performance of the organization.\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>The focus should be on building an organization that is robust and resilient. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Great organizations have no trouble attracting and retaining talent,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d says Sheahan.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Build a culture that people want to work in.\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>The perks and benefits can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be the only lure for bringing in talented workers. Sheahan warns that if the culture doesn&#8217;t reflect what was promised to the manager when hired, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153You&#8217;ll find yourself in bigger trouble.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be courageous<\/strong>. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s important to brave a tight labor market to find talented people, says Sheahan.
